This is a photograph of a little weighing device found about 65 years ago, in an outbuilding, on the farm at Aghagallon where William McGeown lived

The scales, which is what they are, are only 11"x 5" (275mm X 125mm) yet they can weigh up to 300 lbs (130kg) on the large ring and hook; using the small ring and hook they can go up to 45 lbs (20kg). The pointer is double and can indicate whichever range is being used.

As these scales are so portable they were ideal for taking to market. The lower range could be used for such things as poultry or eggs or butter, while the 300 lbs would be used for potatoes or possibly small pigs.
